Course Details

This is an accelerated course run over 2-3 days (1 -2 days if you hold a current Logbook certificate).


Course content, Theory & Practical testing includes

DAY 1

(1 day) Logbook

The logbook component focuses on essential safety and compliance requirements for operating heavy rigid vehicles. This is crucial for obtaining your Class 4 Licence. Ensure you bring your original logbook certificate (valid within the last 12 months). If it is older, please contact us for further instructions.


DAY 2 - Day 3

(Half-day + 2 hours)

The second part of the course coversClass 4 US17574 Theory, including theory and practical components. This includes a half-day of theory followed by an in-depth 2-hour pre-drive and practical test, equipping you with the skills to drive a heavy rigid vehicle safely.

NB: You may be required to complete your drive on Day 3.

What you need to know


Points to note

You must come to the course with your Class 4 learner licence.

To obtain your class 4 learner licence, you need to:

  • Holding a Class 2 Licence for at least six months (or three months if you're over 25 years).

  • Go to VTNZ or AA and pay the fee for the learner licence. If you have completed a DL9 medical in the last 5 years NZTA may have a record in their system.

  • VTNZ or AA will issue with a temporary licence.


Relevant facts

A Class 4 licence enables you to drive a rigid vehicle with a gross laden weight of more than 18,000kg.

This course can be run on or off-site.

Truck hire is an additional approx $230+gst.
